Wee Wee

France 2011

Bon Jour...............

Arrived in France, safe and sound on the 13th.  Great Flight and did manage quite a few hours of sleep.  From Charles de Gaulle Airport we picked up our rental car and tried rather unsuccessfully at first to get out of Paris.  With the help of our Garmin (thanks, Johnny Boy) and the $.20 map that Hertz provided, we began our journey south to Petit Clos, which is the name of their place in the Dordogne Region east of Bordeaux.  Forgive all of the first French spellings as I'm the new kid on the block.

As the Garmin was not accustomed to the French way of the roads, we had a few false starts and more than a few conflicting pieces of information.  The phrase "recalculating" is much the same in all languages and usually delivered with the same intensity and frustration on the part of the lady giving the directions.

It was a long 8hr drive after the flight and we weren't sure we were going all the way before nite fall.  The day was bright and sunny with blue skies and green lights so we pushed our way south to meet Hank in the parking lot of the town square.  As we were sans phone we had to stop at a restaurant and beg the bar keep to call Hank who gladly met us and showed us the way to Petit Clos.

To say the least, their land and buildings are quite overwhelming and the tasks that lay ahead for the two of them is more than daunting...........................so too are the "to do's" that await me.  Hank has had me in the kitchen helping him with the final assembly of the kitchen cabinets that were designed for them by a Mr. I. Kea.  The amount of prep work prior to our arrival is quite overwhelming.  We have both been busy.

Today the butcher block counter tops go in after yesterday's final setting  of the cabinets.  Hank is currently working with his electrician and will join me in the kitchen momentarily.  Susan is out in the garden, planting what was purchased yesterday.  If this e-mail sounds like an edition of "This Old House" I apologize and is the reason why my correspondence will vary from past trips.  As we will be in construction mode while at Hank and Cindy's,  my day to day exploits at the end of a hammer and screwdriver would soon bore everyone to tears so I have decided to do more of a pictorial chronology until we get on the road later in the month.

Hi, to everyone and if anyone sees Aiden, give him a big hug for me...........................gb
